A public event to rise awareness about the cultural importance of the night sky and the impact of light pollution

I'm a professional astrophysicist, deeply involved in public outreach. I love doing both science and communication, sharing with the public what I see at night. I also use my photographic work to spread the sense of beauty we feel under a starry sky.
In 2006 I launched the Virtual Telescope Project (www.virtualtelescope.eu), now having a legendary international reputation and making possible to everyone to see live, on the internet, the most spectacular astronomical events. This is a unique facility to raise awareness about the beauty of the Cosmos and the importance to preserve the wonders of the night sky.
I work as scientific curator at the Planetarium of Rome, Italy.
I really believe that we need the stars. They help us understanding who we are and why we are here. They also reconnect us to our ancestors, as they had a special consideration of the night sky.

Keep looking up!
I've hosted many events over the last decades, always paying attention to the light pollution issue.
My Virtual Telescope Project, active on the international stage, is running many online observing sessions, reaching about 1 million viewers each year. I'm often featured by media like CNN, Newsweek, Time, Sky & Telescope.
As an astrophysicist/science communicator, I'm regularly featured on the national TV/radio/press and I ALWAYS keep in evidence the night sky issue. I've been one of the very first in Italy to talk about this, since the '90s.
Incidentally, I'm just launching my “Carpe Sidera” (“Seize the Stars”) photographic project, devoted to the extraordinary relationship between the sky and the monuments of Rome. This project, by sharing works celebrating the equilibrium between the stars and the archaeological treasures of Rome, can help rising a better awareness to preserve the night sky.
