Gerbertus Academic Journal
Rome, Italy
GERBERTVS has been founded in Paris in 2010 by the astrophysicist Costantino Sigismondi to collect the studies on Gerbert of Aurillac (938-1003) after the celebrations of 1000 years of his death.
The purpose of this Academic Journal is to spread freely high quality papers dealing with History of Astronomy (Gerbert of Aurillac was astronomer, teacher, scholar, mathematician, musician, Benedictine monk and finally Pope with the name of Sylvester II between 999 and 1003). He observed the Pole star of his time (32 Cam, 5.3 magnitude, which now is not visible from many urban sites) and he explained how to point it in 978 AD.
Astronomy, History of Physics and with the didactic of Physics are also important topics for this Journal, present in NASA/ADS with Gerb shortname.
The quality is guaranteed by a strong pool of peer reviewer.
The efficiency of the open access publication wants to overcome the difficulty to found such papers, until now available only in rare printed collections.
*The European Night of Geography Apr 5 2019: M42 observed in comparison between Rome and Vigna Di Valle (rural site).
*International Congresses on History of Astronomy dedicated to Gerbert of Aurillac, who introduced the first equatorial mount in the middle age, by pointing the pole star which was of 5.3 magnitude, nowadays out of reach of many urban sites: next May 10 2019.
*Study on didactic of Physics and Astronomy, to be realized even from urban sites
*Public observations of Variable Stars with the naked eye and a special quadrant designed for the airmass calculation
*Public conferences on solstices and equinoxes days at the great Meridian Line of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome
*University Laboratorium of Solar Physics
*Chair of the Marcel Grossmann Meeting XV History of Astrophysics session, dedicated to Angelo Secchi 1818-1878
*Academic websites of www.icra.it/solar and www.icra.it/gerbertus
*Daily activity with high school students in Optics, Physics and Astronomy
