ASTRONOMY AND SPACE SCIENCE ASSOCIATION OF TANZANIA, Tanzania
Dr N T Jiwaji is a Physicist and Astronomer at the Open University of Tanzania and has taught at various Universities since 1975. He is also the founding Chairman of the Astronomy and Space Science Association of Tanzania (ASSAT). He is an experimental Physicist with a Ph D in Environmental Physics in micro-meteorology and instrumentation. His research interest are Light Pollution and Active Galactic Nuclei.
Dr Jiwaji has pioneered the development of Astronomy in Tanzania since 1978 and is the International Astronomical Union (IAU) National Outreach Coordinator (NOC) for the Tanzania. He writes regularly about Night Skies of Tanzania and special celestial events in English and Kiswahili to promote science education through Astronomy.
I have participated in Dark Skies Outreach to Sub-Saharan Africa project under Connie Walker in 2015 and in also during its second round of Quality Light Teaching Kit in 2017. I am doing research to determine the dark sky perimeter away from light pollution for urban centers in Tanzania suitable for Astronomy and Astrotourism. I have supervised student projects on Light Pollution and have given presentations on Light Pollution at several universities in Tanzania as well as one in Kenya.
