Amy is the founder and director of Starry Sky Austin. She loves the stars and hopes to inspire others to learn about them and love them as much as she does! Amy has a bachelors in physics from the University of Houston where she helped to re-open the University of Houston observatory. She has a Master of Science Teaching degree from Rice University and her Texas Teaching Certificate in Science grades 4-8. She has taught at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, in private and public schools, at Travis County Reimers Observatory & Austin ISD. A mother of 3, she has also been spreading her love of the night sky through Starry Sky Austin. She is author of a published children’s book “Cassandra and the Night Sky“, a new star story she wrote and her mother illustrated to inspire children to look up a the stars and wonder. She is a member of the IDA sponsored Texas Night Sky Festival organizational team and a 2017 Ambassador with the Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassador Program.

-Texas Night Sky Festival 2017- Design a Light Shield, hands-on activity
-Texas Night Sky Festival star party 2018- Design a Light Shield, hands-on activity for boy scout troops
-Texas Night Sky Festival 2019- Design a Light Shield, hands-on activity
-Reimers Observatory at Travis County Reimers Ranch Park- hand out IDA cards and talk about light pollution at public astronomy programs- over 100/year
-UT Earth Science Career Day- Light Shield demonstration for Austin ISD middle school students- discussion of light pollution and benefit to human health to turn off lights inside home at night as well as limiting cell phone usage before bedtime
-Round Rock ISD- Spicewood Elementary School- show entire 5th grade "Losing the Dark" and discuss light pollution- mentor groups of girls on light pollution project.
-Patton Elementary- show entire 3- 5th grade "Losing the Dark" and discuss light pollution.
